Baked Ziti
Comforting pasta bake layered with ground beef, marinara, ricotta, and melted mozzarella.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ziti or penne pasta
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara or pasta sauce
- 1 cup ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, but tasty)
- Salt for pasta water
Steps
- Boil pasta in salted water until just under al dente—1–2 minutes before the package time—then drain.
- In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat.
- Stir in the marinara sauce and simmer 2–3 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the pasta, beef-sauce mixture, ricotta, and half the mozzarella; stir well.
- Transfer to a greased 9×13 baking dish; sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes; uncover and bake another 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- To freeze: let cool completely, wrap tightly in foil plus plastic wrap for extra protection. Bake covered at 375°F for 70–80 minutes (or until hot in the center), uncovering the last 10 minutes to brown.
